Jesus Christ Taxi Driver’s second coming

On March 19, Colorado’s Jesus Christ Taxi Driver released its sophomore album, “Taxi The Rich.” The album is less a departure from 2023’s “Lick My Soul” and instead sees the band settling deeper into its own sonic identity.

But you won’t find this record on your favorite streaming platform — at least not for another month. Instead, listeners can purchase the album from select record stores and online via Midtopia’s “Buy Before You Stream” initiative until the album is released digitally on April 24.

“Corporate tech companies have come between musicians and listeners to leverage their relationship for profit,” the band told Youngster Year. “The Buy Before You Stream initiative is an attempt to reconnect the musician and the listener, and in doing so, hopefully we can remember that streaming services are not the only way to listen to music.”

Accompanying the physical-first release is a performance at Denver’s Bluebird Theater, supporting fellow fervently independent band The Thing on its latest tour of North America. Soon, Jesus Christ Taxi Driver will begin a spring headline tour with its second appearance at the legendary Treefort Music Festival in Boise, Idaho.

The band has become known for a rowdy, unbridled stage presence it continues to refine on the road. This upcoming tour is expected to feature much of the new record live and conclude two weeks before its digital release.

“We love to listen to albums as a whole,” said the band. “We hope that folks will listen to ‘Taxi The Rich’ as a whole too, and listen to other people’s music in this way. So much care goes into curating an album, and it’s a magical experience to behold.”
