The Nancys return with new single

On Aug. 29, The Nancys released their latest single, "Walking Out," following the success of their self-titled debut EP and a run of sold-out shows across their home state.

Founded among the vibrancy of the Gainesville, Florida, music scene, The Nancys are quickly distinguishing themselves as more than just another college band. Since graduating earlier this year, they have been leveraging newfound freedom, first with a summer tour across the deceptively large Sunshine State and now with the band's first new music since making their official debut in May.

"College plays a big part in the writing process of the band," said vocalist and main songwriter Ella Norris in an April interview with Youngster Year, "especially since college is a time where you learn the most about yourself and are thrown into all these new experiences."

"Walking Out" is no exception to the group’s writing process. A contemplative ballad with an emotional bite, the new track explores the turning point in a dying relationship well past its expiration date. The song is deeply personal yet calls to mind familiar themes of love, loss, spite and identity.

The Nancys released "Walking Out" concurrently with a house show in Tallahassee, Florida, the final stop on their recent state-wide tour. With upcoming shows in New York and plans to branch into neighboring states, the band is stepping onto the national stage with a succinct repertoire and a clear vision for the future.

"We feel like we've just started," said Norris, "and to put an end to something that causes us so much joy just doesn't feel right. ... Lots to come for the future of Nancys all over the world."
