Hannah Cole announces debut album, shares new single

Nashville-based artist Hannah Cole will release her debut album, "Switchbacks," Sept. 4 via Tight Knit Records.

Alongside the announcement, she has shared the album's lead single, "MMA," and announced a run of Midwest and East Coast tour dates this fall.

Following the release of her EPs "Big Bite" in 2023 and "Glisten" in 2024, "Switchbacks" finds Cole expanding the guitar-driven sound she has developed since moving from her hometown of Covington, Louisiana, to Nashville in 2019.

Recorded between 2024 and 2025 in a home studio with longtime collaborator Josef Kuhn, the album was mixed by Sonny Diperri, whose credits include American Football, Wisp and Julie.

According to Cole, the album centers on the pursuit of success while holding onto the enjoyment that first inspired her to make music. Across 10 tracks, "Switchbacks" blends elements of shoegaze, alternative rock and pop, while drawing inspiration from guitar music of the 1990s.

Lead single "MMA" examines the entertainment industry through the imagery of Las Vegas, contrasting moments of restraint with heavier passages.

The song was inspired in part by Joan Didion's 1970 novel "Play It As It Lays," which prompted Cole to reflect on parallels between Hollywood and Nashville's music industry.

Cole will support "Switchbacks" with a headlining tour beginning in late August.

"Switchbacks" is due Sept. 4 via Tight Knit Records.
